I was both terrified and fascinated by the concept of the nuclear bomb as a kid. The BBC made sure the all us kids were. I’m still terrified and fascinated by the concept of the nuclear bomb. I have books about surviving a nuclear attack via public service pamphlets from the 80s. A nuclear detonation can only be exciting if you live long enough to see it. I dreamed of being able to surf the waves of energy, supersonic and impervious. To escape the furnace, outrun the radiation, evade the fallout. I guess I just wanted to escape the terror. Dampen the anxiety. There is no escaping. While the bombs exist, there is no peace.
